How it all got started

In 2011, after our mom received her one year "all-clear" from cancer, we decided to join the Williams County Relay for Life as a way to honor her.  For anyone who knows Judy, she is self-less and always doing for others - and this was our way of trying to celebrate her victory over cancer, and try to play a small part in helping to reduce the number of families who have to hear the words "you have cancer".  Mom chose the name Counting Our Blessings - as through it all, she focused on the good and the positive in her life.

For 13 years, we baked pies, held Euchre tournaments, and raised close to $200,000 to support those fighting cancer.  Sadly, after the 2023 event, we made the difficult decision to close our Relay chapter.  Since that decision was made, I've felt called to still "do something" to help and support the individuals and families in and connected to my hometown of Edon.  I think we can all agree that what makes Edon truly special is the people, and sense of community that exists there.

Why now?

Unfortunately, in March of 2024, my mom received a new cancer diagnosis.  Trying to keep people updated on tests she has had run, next steps for her, when treatments will happen - it is HARD work.  And I'm sure other people are struggling to do the same.
